Weesaw Township Community Center Book Room Up and Running

The Book Room is now open Monday through Saturday, from 10 am to noon, and Monday and Friday evenings, 5:30 to 7:00. With additional volunteers, we could expand these hours to enable more kids to visit the Book Room after school.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact us.

New Troy Book Room now has Online Computers  The Esther Steckelberg Book Room in the New Troy Community Center now has online computers available for patrons' use.

"This is really quite an achievement," Book Room chairwoman Kay English says.   "A recent visitor mentioned that to have a book room functioning just like a library in our community is wonderful, and Friends of New Troy is to be commended."

In 2007, more than 1,200 people were served by the Book Room, and FONT is predicting greater numbers because of the computers.

Cameron Hanover, a former New Troy resident and RV graduate working for the University of Michigan, secured the donation of four U-M computers, configured them, and then worked with FONT member Mike Metz to set up the units.  Laser printers were donated by other FONT members.

The facility is a "hot spot," meaning that people with wireless laptop computers can get online at the center.

Volunteers Wendy Foster and Ron Schaffer have been busy entering all of the center's books into the new system.  The books are already catalogued according to the Dewey Decimal System, but now, with the help of the computers, we are able to search out a particular title or author for patrons.
