Our monthly Gather & events are designed to encourage community gathering and socializing. We provide light refreshments and a welcoming space along with an activity ranging from plant exchanges, historical lectures, community meals, game nights, movies, and much more. Keep an eye on the calendar and join us for one of our gatherings!

The 8th Annual Strawberry Social

The New Troy Community Center (13372 California Road) will feature the 8th annual Allan Boyd Memorial Strawberry Social from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 12th, in the gazebo garden. This event is a gift to the community and will offer live “big band” music from Down by the Dock, as well as tempting treats such as strawberry shortcake, ice cream, and root beer floats.
Every summer for the past eight years, the Boyd family has gifted this event to the community in memory of their patriarch, Allan Boyd (1925-2017). Allan grew up in New Troy and attended New Troy High School, which once stood on the site of the current New Troy Township Park. As a young man, he owned a garage in the center of town. Later in life, he became Weesaw Township Supervisor and remained a prominent figure in local politics for many years. His reminiscences of the town were featured in the movie “New Troy: The Center of the World."

Want to learn more? Visit our Historical Room on Saturdays from 10 to noon and ask local historian Mike Metz about the life and times of Allan Boyd.

Throughout the year, Friends of New Troy strives to bring programming and experiences to residents of Weesaw Township and our surrounding communities. We thank the Boyd Family for their generous contribution to this effort by underwriting The Strawberry Social in its entirety.

In other news, we are moving our 5K from October to August! The Run to the Center of the World will be held on August 22, 2026. Early registration is available here.
