Welcome to The Center of the World
The New Troy Community Center is run by the community, for the community, and is supported entirely through memberships, donations, fundraisers, rentals, and grant support. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit that receives no government funding.
Stop in, and you might join a pickleball game, join Sunday sewing, bring your preschooler to Story Hour, enjoy our monthly Gather & events, or visit the Activities Room. Our grounds provide a popular sledding hill, playground, demonstration rain garden, nature trail, and ever-growing flower garden. Wedding vows are exchanged in our gazebo. Milestone events are celebrated in our Community Room.
In addition to our single-day event rentals, the Center is also supported by the commitment of long-term renters of private office space who help ensure the building's operations can continue smoothly. These community members provide essential resources that contribute to the stability of the Center.
How did all of this come to be? In 2005, a group of residents came together with a shared vision to reclaim the sense of community that was lost when the New Troy School closed. Their goal was simple: to buy the property and transform it into a place where the community could once again gather, share, and grow together. The effort began with a fundraiser, and the support from neighbors was overwhelming. Over time, that support turned into an active membership, countless fundraisers, immeasurable selfless acts of generosity, and together, we paid off the mortgage in 2018.
Since then, our focus has been on improving the building to meet the needs of the community. In 2020, we renovated all of our restrooms, making them ADA-compliant and accessible to everyone. In 2023, we completed a renovation of the Meeting Room, Activities Room, and a classroom for private rental, giving the Center more flexibility to host a variety of events.
In 2024, we completed a much-needed exterior revitalization. The parking lot was resurfaced and restriped, with new ADA-compliant spaces near the main entrance. Both of the main walkways were leveled and repaired, with new seating added to make the area more comfortable and accessible year-round. The façade was enhanced with wooden architectural elements to create a warmer, more inviting appearance. The Memorial Garden was refreshed with leveled bricks and new landscaping to make it more prominent. A new, accessible walking path was installed from the parking lot to the Memorial Garden, complete with seating for safety and ease of movement. Finally, a new sign was placed near the entrance, replacing the old, weathered one, to help make the Center more visible and welcoming.
Our programs continue to grow and adapt to the needs of our community. We offer regular activities like Pickleball Mondays, Sunday Sewing, and Wiggles & Giggles Story Hour, along with monthly Gather & events and a seasonal Community Market. We also provide essential services such as the Little Free Pantry and mobile food pantries in partnership with Feeding America. Our annual events include The Strawberry Social, The Run to The Center of the World 5k, and Santa Comes to Town. Most of these activities and events are offered free of charge, and everyone is welcome to participate.
The New Troy Community Center is a place where neighbors come together, old friendships are rekindled, and new ones are formed. If you haven't visited yet, we invite you to stop by and see what makes this place special—a community space built on a shared vision, where everyone belongs.
